Self-Care commandment number 3. I will Listen to my body
How often do you truly listen to your body?
Not just when it’s shouting at you with exhaustion, pain, or overwhelm — but in the quiet moments too?
Your body holds wisdom. It speaks to you in whispers, sensations, cravings, tension, fatigue, energy surges, and even stillness. And when we begin to slow down and listen, we can respond with the care and compassion our bodies are so often asking for.
Setting the intention to “listen to my body” is a beautiful act of self-respect. It’s a return to self-trust.
Nourish with Food and Hydration
One of the simplest yet most powerful ways to honour your body is by nourishing it well.
This doesn’t mean perfection or following strict food rules. It means tuning in.
Ask yourself:
- What does my body need right now?
- Am I eating out of habit, emotion, or true hunger?
- How do I feel after I eat certain foods?
Choosing whole, grounding foods and staying hydrated helps regulate your energy, support digestion, and strengthen your immunity — all essential for feeling good in your body.
Sometimes the most healing thing you can do is make a warm, nourishing meal and drink a big glass of water. That is self-care.
Practice Gentle Movement
Listening to your body also means moving in a way that feels supportive — not punishing.
Gentle practices like Qi Gong, yoga, stretching, or simply walking outside help move stagnant energy, reduce stress, and reconnect you to your breath and body.
Qi Gong, in particular, is a beautiful blend of slow, flowing movements, breathwork, and mindful intention. It helps restore balance, ease tension, and cultivate inner peace — all without exhausting or depleting you.
Try asking your body:
- Do I need to move or rest today?
- What kind of movement would feel nourishing, not draining?
- How can I move with kindness, not force?
Listening Is a Daily Practice
Listening to your body isn’t always easy at first — especially if you’ve spent years ignoring its signals or pushing through pain. But with gentle consistency, it becomes second nature.
Some days your body will ask for rest. Other days, it may crave movement, sunlight, greens, connection, or solitude. There’s no one-size-fits-all answer — only an ongoing relationship between you and your body.
A Gentle Invitation:
✨ Today, pause and place your hand on your heart or belly.
Take three deep breaths.
Ask your body: What do you need right now?
Then honour the answer — even in the smallest way.
You deserve to feel at home in your body.
You are worthy of deep care, nourishment, and peace. 💛
