How to Self-care for Autumn – 5 top tips

I’m not going to lie, the end of summer does make me a bit sad, because summer is my favourite season.  The days are growing shorter and the skies are getting greyer.  So I write this post to remind myself to embrace the seasonal changes.

As the seasons change so do our needs.  This post will explore how we transition from the care free days of summer and embrace the cosiness of autumn while incorporating self-care tips and ideas.

5 top tips for embracing self-care in autumn

  • Reflect on and feel gratitude for the summer that has been.
  • Connect with nature – let nature show you how beautiful it can be to let things go.
  • Nourish your body and mind.
  • Get cosy! –  definitely my favourite.
  • Embrace change and set goals.

Reflect on and feel gratitude for the summer that has been.  Take some time to consider what you have achieved over the summer months. Consider challenges, memorable moments and achievements.  Journaling our thoughts and feelings can help us gain closure and gratitude for the season past.

Connect with nature.  Take yourself out a walk, breathe in the fresh air.  Enjoy the beautiful show that nature puts on at this time of year, watch as the leaves change colour and fall to the ground.  Let things go both physically and mentally, just as the trees do.  Declutter a space in your home, or a negative belief in your mind.

Nourish your body.  In autumn there is an abundance of seasonal fruit and vegetables around.  Make yourself some soups, stews and smoothies.  Stay hydrated with seasonal herbal teas.  Spend time being mindful, living in the present moment.  Practice breathwork and meditation.

Get cosy.  I love nothing more than getting all cosy.  Flames, fire and heat, for me this is my favourite thing about autumn.  Dressing gowns, cardigans, fleecy blankets, candles, slipper socks, slippers, scarfs, gloves, hats.   I love lighting a scented candle, enjoy watching the flame and smelling the beautiful scents.  Lie up on the sofa with a fleecy blanket and a good book.

Embrace change and set goals.  By embracing the change of the seasons we change our perspective and can look forward to the good things that autumn can bring.  We can set small simple goals for ourselves, like get out in nature, declutter a drawer, make a pot of seasonal soup.  we can make our goals bigger if we so desire.

I’ve just about talked myself into autumn now after writing that.  The truth is we need to accept that change is always happening, whether or not we like it, so better to embrace the change.  Change is a natural part of life and the seasonal changes demonstrate that perfectly.  So look forward to the best parts of autumn.  Reflect, be grateful, connect with nature, nourish your body, eat well, meditate, get cosy, set goals and embrace the change.
