The moon has a powerful influence over our lives. The ebb and flow of the worlds ocean tides are controlled by the moon. Since the human body is made up of 70% water it doesn’t seem to out there to suggest that the moon could influence our waves of emotions too.

We can harness the moon phases and use them as a guide to enhance and transform our lives. There are four moon phases we can use to do this. The new moon, the first quarter, the full moon and the last quarter. We can harness this moon energy into our self-care journey.

The four moon phases

The new moon

The new moon is the first phase of the lunar cycle. This phase is about new beginnings, fresh starts and seeking new opportunities. This is a time to get clear on your intentions.

  • How do you want to feel?
  • What do you want more of in your life?
  • Focus on what you DO want!

Think about a project you want to complete or a decision you want to make.

New moon energy is about planting your seeds of intention. Write in your journal, write about your hopes and dreams and imagine them coming to life.

Indulge in nurturing self-care, take a walk, get out in nature, journal around what areas of your life could use a fresh start? What do I want to accomplish this month? What self-care will support me this month?

New moon

  • Set a new intention
  • Journal around your hopes and dreams
  • Meditate on what you would like to bring in
  • Take a walk
  • Get out in nature

First quarter

The moon is slowly growing, now is the time to take small simple steps towards your goals and desires. Continue to journal, use your journal to bring in positve affirmations into your day.  The first quarter is the time to introduce new healthy habits, such as journaling, meditating and deep breathing.

Meditate on your new moon intentions. Say yes to new opportunities.  It is inevitable that we will come across obstacles as we begin to take action.  Now is a good time to reflect on how we can move through them and towards our goals and desires.

First quarter

  • Begin to take small simple steps
  • Journal and meditate on how you will feel when you reach those goals
  • Be aware that as we take action we will face obstacles
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help and support

Full Moon

At it’s most beautiful and powerful, the full moon is the climax of the cycle. This phase is about celebrating and honouring the work you have done so far in regards to helping your new moon seeds of intention grow.

Celebrate the little wins, no matter how small. Be grateful for what you have learned along the way. Emotions can run high and wild during a full moon, just be aware you may be feeling extra sensitive to critisism and overwhelm.

Now is the tine for releasing stuck energy, a time of forgiving and letting go, and a time to be grateful.

Full Moon

  • Celebrate the wins, no matter how small
  • Forgive and let go
  • Practice gratitude

Last quarter

Now is the time for reflection, The time to rest and slow down. To be accepting and to be compassionate, to yourself. A great time to get out in nature.  To forgive yourself for perceived failures and realise that mistakes are just lessons. Journal around what you have learnt throughout the lunar phases.  Think about or journal on what you are ready to let go of. Just pause and feel how good that feels.

What do you need to let go of? An old belief, fear or doubt? An unhealthy habit? Physical clutter in your environment. When we let go, we create space.

Beofre the energy of the new moon returns, now is a great time to reflect and recharge.  Embrace your favourite self-care habits. Take a bath, go a walk, have a nap, get out in nature.  Journal and meditate on some questions…Does my work/life balance? What have I learnt in this lunar cycle? How can I nourish myself in the next cycle?

Last quarter

  • Reflect, accept and slow down
  • Forgive and let go
  • Journal and meditate on letting go
  • Practice self-care
  • Ask yourself some questions

Benefits and rewards of harnessing moon energy

We can benefit greatly when we harness the moon energy in our self-care journey. When we work with the natural rhythms of the moon. The moon does not shine brightly 365 days of the year, and we do not have to either.  That’s a relief, right? Working intentionally with the moons lunar cycle can assist us in tuning into our feelings, desires and behaviours.

So set an intention today, to harness moon energy into your self-care journey.
