How journaling can get you back to doing what you love
So we have spoke about finding what you love. Now it is time to do it! But how?
Five simple steps
- Write
- Set a goal
- Create a habit
- Small steps
- Journal
WRITE – The first thing you need to do is write out your goal.
What do you want to achieve today? Or next week, or five years from now. What do you want? Well there’s a whole other post on that. What do you want?
SET A GOAL – Lets keep it simple and start with today.
My goal for today
- renew car insurance
- check online courses
- Get back into the blog
- upload ebook version of journal
- contact mental health charities
- Look into paid advertising
So that should be enough to keep me going for now. I might not accomplish all these goals today, but even if I only do one, then i’ve started somewhere. Small simple steps. Writing was the first one.
Now…Write them down. There is something very powerful about seeing your goals on paper. Even if you get distracted from the now, you can go back to your paper and find out what you were doing or what comes next. It is also very satisfying when you get to tick something off the list. A list of goals can be the start of writing.
CREATE A HABIT
Create a habit of writing, carry a notepad and pen in your bag, your car, have one on your nightstand, or use your phone, tablet or laptop. Any way that works for you and encourages you to write. Even if your only beginning with a list of goals.
Try to stack a habit, for example you could say, after I have written my list of goals I will take a small step to tick something off the list straight away.
SMALL STEPS
What small step can I take right now?
So for me today its was opening my laptop and just thinking about my blog and what I can write about next. I researched some online courses and signed up to one. I made a start. Your steps can be as small and simple as you want them to be.
JOURNAL
Go back to the list and your goals. Write what you managed to achieve or just tick it off the list. Write a new list for tomorrow. Little by little, a little becomes alot.
Journaling can help us understand our thoughts and process them in a more positive way. Journaling is self-care, self-love and self-development all rolled into one.
So find what you love and use writing and journaling to help you stay on track.
