What is selfcare? How do we practice it?

Self-care is being conscious of and actively protecting our own well-being and happiness, particularly when we are experiencing stress and anxiety.  Becoming aware of our own bodies and learning to recognise signs of stress is the first step in the self-care process.  Once we are aware we can use self-care tools to look after ourselves.  We are going to explore as many as possible including; positive self-talk, letting go of negative beliefs, re-programming our brains through positive affirmations, thought patterns and behaviours, reiki, meditation, bath rituals, exercise, gratitude, forgiveness, finding what you love and doing more of that.

Speak nicely to yourself

Listen to what you are telling yourself, and if you don’t like it, understand that you have the ability to change it.  You can tell yourself anything you want.  So say some nice things, some lovely things and some excellent things.Tell yourself the exact opposite of what you have been telling yourself.  I told myself for years I was useless with technology, particularly computers.  Then I realised it was a barrier I had to smash to realise what I wanted.  What do I want? That question we must answer.  We must know what we want and not let our barriers and fears stop us.

In order to change our negative beliefs we must first understand what we are telling ourselves and then tell ourselves the exact opposite.  Change  I am useless with technology to I am a wizz with technology, I learn quickly and easily.  Just try it, play the game.  Have fun.

It is important to find and figure out what we love.

Have you ever heard the saying “do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life”? It’s a phrase that’s been around for years, and for good reason. Doing what you love is incredibly important for your overall happiness and well-being.
